Restoring Rights: How We Secure Our AI-Assisted Music

At Khmer Style, we believe that using AI tools like Suno and UDIO doesn’t mean sacrificing ownership or artistic integrity. In fact, it requires a stricter, more professional approach to copyright management.

We’ve developed a rigorous workflow to ensure that every track we release is 100% owned, legally cleared, and ready for commercial licensing. We call it the Proof Pack Protocol.

The “Gray Area” Myth

Many believe that AI-generated music cannot be copyrighted. This is a misunderstanding of the current landscape for paid professional tiers.

By using Suno Pro/Premier and UDIO Pro tiers, we hold the commercial ownership of the output. But “holding ownership” and “proving ownership” are two different things. That’s where our protocol comes in.

Step 1: The Proof Pack

For every single release, we compile a digital archive that acts as a chain of custody. This structure is designed to fully align with the SACEM AI Protocol, allowing us to clearly distinguish human input from machine generation.

1. Raw Generation Stems: The original audio files exported directly from the AI engine.
2. Lyrical Drafts: The Google Docs or notes showing the human-written lyrics and structural direction.
3. DAW Project Files: The Ableton, Logic, FL Studio, or BandLab sessions where we mix, master, and often overlay real instruments or vocals.
4. Commercial Receipt: The invoice proving our active subscription at the time of generation.

Step 2: SACEM & MusicStart Registration

We register our works with SACEM (France’s PRO), declaring the human authorship of lyrics and melody (where applicable) and arrangement.

Additionally, we use MusicStart to anchor the creation in the blockchain. This provides immutable proof of paternity (authorship) and a timestamped certificate, ensuring we have indisputable evidence for any future dispute cases.

Step 3: Distributor Transparency

When distributing to Spotify or Apple Music via DistroKid or SPPF, we check the “AI-Assisted” box if required, but we assert our rights as the master owner. By having our Proof Pack ready, we can instantly counter any potential copyright flags.
