Protecting Khmer Music
The Current State of Music Copyright in Cambodia
Unlike France or the U.S., Cambodia lacks a structured music copyright system. Many Khmer artists do not receive royalties, face widespread piracy, and have no legal protection.
How We Protect Our Music
To ensure our music is legally protected and monetized, Khmer Style has registered with SACEM (Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique).
- ✅ Royalties: Fair compensation for streams & broadcasts.
- ✅ Copyright: Legally recognized worldwide.
- ✅ Blockchain: Works protected via MusicStart technology.
The Future
It’s time for Cambodia to create its own music copyright system. We advocate for:
- Establishing a royalty collection agency for Cambodian artists.
- Implementing laws that recognize music copyright.
- Encouraging international registration (SACEM, ASCAP, BMI).
Support Khmer artists by streaming from official platforms and avoiding piracy.
